Women’s basketball falls in nail-biter on the road to Clarion, 60-59

Moyer records third straight double-double; Hilliard nearly records triple-double

Box Score CLARION, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (6-10, 3-9 PSAC) battled with Clarion (9-9, 5-7 PSAC) the entire game, but fell in a dramatic finish, 60-59  tonight in PSAC West action.

The back-and-forth game, which featured 11 ties and 18 lead changes, was not decided until the final possession.

The Lady Eagles led Clarion 28-25 at the halftime break and the two teams battled back-and-forth throughout the entire second half.

Down by two, 60-58 with 5.1 seconds remaining, Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) made a free throw to cut the CU lead to just one, 60-59.

LHU then stole the ensuing Clarion in-bounds pass and had two field goal attempts at the win, but The Haven could not connect as time expired.

Moyer recorded her third straight double-double for LHU.  She finished with 20 points on an efficient 9-of-12 shooting and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds.  Six of Moyer's 15 rebounds came on the offensive end.

J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) had another great all-around performance for The Haven. 

Hilliard, who was named PSAC West Freshman of the Week on Monday for the second straight week, nearly recorded a triple-double.  She scored 10 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out a career-high seven assists.

It was Hilliard's second double-double of the season.

Kelsey Ryan (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) nearly posted a double-double of her own, as she netted 11 points and grabbed nine boards.

Sami Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) scored eight points and dished out three assists off the bench.

Hannah Heeter led Clarion with 17 points and 25 rebounds.

The Lady Eagles remain on the road this Saturday (January 26) when LHU travels to California (Pa.) for a PSAC West matchup.  Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
