Women’s Soccer drops double OT thriller at Shippensburg, 3-2

Shippensburg tied the match late in regulation, wins it in double OT

Box Score SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's soccer team lost 3-2 tonight at Shippensburg in a PSAC double-overtime thriller.
 
It was a tale of two halves as Lock Haven (4-8-1, 3-8-1 PSAC) jumped on host-Shippensburg (8-4, 7-4 PSAC) early and it paid off with two first-half goals. Shippensburg however dominated play in the second half and tied the match in the 89th minute.
 
LHU took controlled of game early scoring just 2:34 into the match and the Lady Eagles outshot Ship, 14-6 in the first 45 minutes of play.
 
Jamie Hunter's (Marietta, Pa./Donegal) fourth goal of the season put The Haven up 1-0 in the third minute and Madison Taylor (Monaca, Pa./Center) made it 2-0 in the 31st minute of play.
 
Taylor headed home a perfect corner kick pass from Samantha Biondi (Hamilton, N.J./Mercer County C.C.).
 
It was the third goal of the year for Taylor and the 22nd of her career, which puts her just two goals away from the No. 7 spot on Lock Haven's all-time scoring list.
 
Shippensburg's Casey Rightmyer put the hosts on the board in the 56th minute and Brooke Clipinger tied the match with just 1:02 left in regulation, as the Red Raiders outshot LHU, 13-4 in the second half.
 
After a scoreless first overtime period, Ashley Vellucci won it for Shippensburg two minutes into double-OT.
 
Dana Wozniak (Blackstone, Mass./Mount St. Charles Academy) made eight saves for LHU.
 
Lock Haven returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. when the Lady Eagles host Millersville.

·         Lock Haven has now lost three straight matches.
·         This was just the second road-loss for LHU, who is 3-2-1 away from home this year.
·         Jamie Hunter leads LHU in goals with four. Madison Taylor has three.
