Downes hat trick sparks Lock Haven’s second straight shutout

Box Score BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team's (12-4, 2-1 A-10) offense exploded for five goals and the Lady Eagles recorded their second straight Atlantic 10 Conference win by blanking host La Salle (4-11, 0-3 A-10) 5-0.
 
Nakira Downes (Bridgetown, Barbados/The Combermere School) was the spark in the attack as she recorded a hat trick in the win, which helped LHU moved to 2-1 in conference play.
 
Downes put Lock Haven up 1-0 just 2:39 into the match and she made it 2-0 in the 13th minute of play.
 
Rachel Valentine (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) made it 3-0 in the 31st minute and Downes capped off the hat trick in the 46th minute.
 
Lydia George (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) rounded out the scoring in the 62nd minute.
 
Lock Haven goalie Elaina White (Etters, Pa./Red Land) made seven saves in the shutout-effort.
 
Lock Haven returns to action on Friday, Oct. 25 when the Lady Eagles host Virginia Commonwealth at 3 p.m.
