Field Hockey blanks VCU, 3-0

Lady Eagles move one step closer to A-10 playoff spot with third straight conference shutout

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team recorded its third straight Atlantic 10 Conference shutout, blanking visiting VCU 3-0 today at Charlotte Smith Field.  
 
Lock Haven (13-4, 3-1 A-10) outshot VCU (8-8, 2-2 A-10) 18-10, moving one step closer to a A-10 playoff spot as The Haven improved to 3-1 in conference play.
 
Lock Haven took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute when Taylor Kennedy (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Township) scored her eighth goal of the season. Kennedy's low-shot off a penalty corner was set up by Nakira Downes (Bridgetown, Barbados/The Combermere School) and Lydia George (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring).
 
Downes helped put LHU up 2-0 in the 53rd minute. She busted through the VCU defense and down the right side of the field where she sent a perfect crossing-pass back to Colleen McCabe (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./William Tennent), who beat the goalie far post.
 
Stephanie Ebersole (Elizabethtown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) gave Lock Haven the insurance they needed, making it 3-0 in the 60th minute. Ebersole deflected home a Kelly Harsh (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) shot.
 
Haven goalie Elaina White (Etters, Pa./Red Land) made six saves in the win.
 
Lock Haven returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 27 at noon vs. Richmond in a matchup of two A-10 powers.
