Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team closed the 2013 season today with a 44-14 loss at home to Gannon University.
For the third straight game and fourth time this season,
Brandon Brader (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) rushed for over 100 yards on the ground, but it wasn't enough to push Lock Haven (3-8) past visiting-Gannon (6-5).
The Bald Eagles three wins are the most in a single season since LHU went 3-8 in 2004. Despite losing three straight to end the 2013 season, it will go down as one of the most successful Lock Haven football seasons in recent memory.
Highlighting the season was a number of milestones and firsts, including - 2013 marking the first season in school history that Lock Haven would play in the PSAC Eastern Division.
Lock Haven opened the season 2-1 and the Bald Eagles' win over Millersville on the road in Week 8 snapped a 30-game road losing streak that dated back to the 2007 campaign. The Haven's season-opening win over West Virginia State gave Lock Haven two straight wins dating back to last season – the first time it had won two straight since 2002. The Bald Eagles Week 3 win over Cheyney also gave LHU three straight wins at home for the first time since '02.
Prior to today's game, LHU also honored its 12 graduating football seniors, who wrapped up their careers. The 2013 class will go down in history for what they did to help turn around the program.
The Golden Knights had quite arguably their best offensive performance of the season today and put 21 first-quarter points on the board.
Gannon quarterback Liam Nadler threw for 348 yards and two touchdowns. He added two rushing TDs, as did Jansen Jones, who rushed for 191 yards and two scores.
For Lock Haven, Brader, who was playing the final game of his career, rushed for 109 yards on 14 carriers. It was his third straight game with 100 or more yards on the ground. It was the ninth time in his career that we went over the 100-yard mark in a game.
Brader finished his career with 2,704 career rushing yards, which is good enough for fourth all-time in school history.
Trailing 24-0, Lock Haven finally got on the board with 3:33 left in the first half.
Matt Luebbers (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) caught an eight-yard pass from
Caleb Walton (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central).
Dillon Mazzoni (Melbourne, Fla./Shippensburg Univ.) also threw a touchdown pass. He hit
James Wilbern (Steelton, Pa./Steelton-Highspire) on a 20-yard pass late in the third quarter.
Tony Ballon (Jersey City, N.J./Harrisburg) and George Christas (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) both finished with eight tackles, while
Chris Englar (York, Pa./Central York) added seven.
Kyle White (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) chipped in with six.
White added a sack and both Christas and
Zsone Olds (Pittsburgh/Schenely) picked off Nadler. Olds added five tackles.
Christas and Ballon finish the year 1-2 in team tackles with 84 and 81, respectively.
