UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.  – The Lock Haven University wrestling team fell at No. 1 Penn State, 34-6 in front of a standing-room only Rec Hall crowd.
 
The top-ranked Nittany Lions (3-0) won eight of 10 bouts and tacked on bonus points in six of their wins.
 
Mac Maldarelli (Merrick, N.Y./Nassau C.C.) and No. 14 Fred Garcia (Donora, Pa./Ringgold) were both winners for the Bald Eagles (2-3) today, winning at 149 and 184, respectively.
 
Trailing 11-0 in the team score after losses at 125, 133 and 141, Maldarelli put Lock Have on the board with a hard-fought win over Penn State's Zachary Beitz at 149 pounds.
 
Maldarelli scored a late escape to edged Beitz, 8-7. Two first period takedowns had Maldarelli up 5-2 after one, but he led by only one point - 6-5 - heading into the third. Maldarelli started down and scored a quick escape, but Beitz counted with a strong shot and takedown of his own to tie the match at 7-7.
 
Maldarelli's last minute escape was the difference.
 
Garcia took down PSU's Wesley Phipps, 3-1 after a tough battle at 184.
 
Garcia scored a quick takedown early in the first period and held a 2-1 lead after one period. Garcia was a hammer on top during the second and rode out the period on top. A third-period escape for Garcia sealed the win.
