LHU falls to Richmond in A-10 semifinal, 4-0

#3 Lock Haven falls to #2 Richmond, 4-0 today in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament Semifinals

Box Score AMHERST, Mass. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team fell 4-0 to Richmond today in semifinal action at the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament.
 
Lock Haven (14-7) was playing as the tournament's No. 3 seed, while Richmond (14-6) was seeded second. The Spiders edged Lock Haven, 2-1 back on October 27.
 
The first 20 minutes of today's match proved to be a tight defensive battle, until Richmond finally cracked the scoreboard in the 26th minute. Rebecca Barry put the Spiders up 1-0, 25:34 into the game.
 
Richmond took the 1-0 lead into the break, but three second-half goals helped the Spiders secure the win, which will push them into tomorrow's title match. Richmond will play the winner of this afternoon's UMass – VCU semifinal.
 
Richmond's goals came from four different players.
 
Lock Haven goalie Elaina White (Etters, Pa./Red Land) made two saves leading a strong defensive effort throughout.
 
Nakira Downes (Bridgetown, Barbados/The Combermere School) tallied two of Lock Haven's four shots.
 
Lydia George (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) also created a good scoring chance for Lock Haven off a penalty corner opportunity, but Lock Haven's couldn't sneak one past Richmond goalie Anna Zarkoski.
 
Lock Haven finished the season at 14-7 overall. LHU went 4-3 in regular season A-10 play. Yesterday, eight Lady Eagles were honored with various All-Conference honors.
