Women’s Basketball falls on the road in PSAC action to Mercyhurst, 78-65

Moyer nets 23 points; Lane records season-high 20 points

Box Score ERIE, Pa.  – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (1-7, 0-3 PSAC East) fell on the road to Mercyhurst (2-6, 1-2 PSAC West), 78-65.
 
After a slow start in the first half LHU trailed, 30-15 with 5:29 remaining when Hannah Gildea (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) netted a layup in the paint to give The Haven momentum. 
 
Junior Sami Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) and Kelsey Ryan (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) rallied The Lady Eagles to narrow the fifteen-point deficit to, 36-30 when the first-half came to a close. 
 
The Lady Eagles got off to a great start in the second half and continued to fight for the lead.  With 7:02 left in the game, Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) scored in the paint to trail by three.  The Lakers scored six quick points and broke away for the win.
 
Lock Haven scored 32 points in the paint and 18 points off turnovers.  The Lady Eagles recorded 14 fast break points and shot 64.0% from the free throw line.
 
Moyer led The Haven offense with 23 points and eight rebounds in 37 minutes of action. 
 
Lane helped pace LHU with 20 points and a pair of assists.
 
Kelsey Ryan and Sydney Morse (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) were tough down low for The Haven all day with five and four rebounds, respectively.
 
Gildea added five rebounds.
 
Sophomore Lysa Mealing (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) returned to the court tonight, grabbing three rebounds and adding an assist in 17 minutes of action.
 
Adrienne Kloecker led The Lakers with 18 points and 10 rebounds in 34 minutes.
 
The Lady Eagles are right back in action tomorrow, December 18 (5:30 p.m.) against Gannon in a PSAC matchup.
