Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (1-9) used a strong second half to close the gap, but visiting Clarion University (4-5) slipped past the Lady Eagles, 85-79 today in PSAC Crossover action.
Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) flirted with a double-double and
Lysa Mealing (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) netted a career-high 15 points, but it wasn't enough cap the comeback.
Moyer scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds. She also had five assists and five steals.
J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) added 11 points and
Kelsey Ryan (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) knocked down nine.
Hannah Gildea (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) added eight points and a career-high seven rebounds.
Clarion closed the first half on a strong run and took a 15-point lead into the break. The Golden Eagles shot 53 percent on the way to the 47-32 halftime lead.
Emma Fickel scored 17 points in the first half to spark Clarion's attack. She finished with 20.
Early in the second half, Clarion led by as many as 19 and the Golden Eagles held an 11-point lead with 12:19 to play.
Lock Haven wasn't going anywhere and continued to claw its way back into it. With 3:17 left in the game, a Hilliard jumper tied the game at, 74-74.
Lock Haven led by one, 78-77 with 1:02 left in the game, when Clarion's Fickel went to the line for three free-throws. She sunk all three and Clarion never trailed again.
Today marked the final game of the 2013 calendar year for the Lady Eagles.
Lock Haven returns to action on Friday, January 3 at 1 p.m. when it hosts Pitt-Johnstown.
