Hepburn & Festus lead LHU to New Year’s Eve win over Goldey-Beacom, 77-61

Hepburn scores 29 points; Festus adds 23 in LHU victory

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (6-4) got outstanding performances from Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia/Neumann-Goretti) and Kasheef Festus (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carroll), as LHU downed Goldey-Beacom (4-6), 77-61 on a special New Year's Eve edition of non-conference basketball at Thomas Fieldhouse.

The first half featured exceptional offense from both teams, as the Bald Eagles and Lightning each shot above 50.0% from the field in the period. LHU led, 39-33 at the break.

Festus was huge down low for The Haven in the first 20 minutes. He led all scorers with 13 points at the break.

Hepburn netted nine in the first half, including a silky-smooth fast-break dunk that ignited the LHU players and fans.

Hepburn opened up the second half on fire. He scored the first 13 points for either team to open the second half, pushing LHU's lead to, 52-33 with 16:04 remaining.

The 19 point lead was all LHU needed. The Haven locked down Goldey-Beacom in the second half, forcing the Lightning to shoot just 37.0% from the field in the period.

Hepburn finished with a game-high 29 points (20 in the second half) on an outstanding 12-of-15 shooting from the field. Hepburn was a perfect 3-for-3 on three-pointers. He added six rebounds.

Festus finished with a season-high 23 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the win. The senior made 11-of-12 free throws in the game.

Nate Walters (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) added eight points and six rebounds.

LHU made its presence felt on the glass, out-rebounding GBC, 38-25 in the game.

With today's win, the Bald Eagles have now matched their win total from a season ago (6).

Donte McGill led Goldey-Beacom with 17 points.
Lock Haven returns to action this Friday and Saturday (Jan. 3-4) when the Bald Eagles host Pitt-Johnstown (Friday) and IUP (Saturday) in PSAC crossover action. Tipoff on both Friday and Saturday is set for 3 p.m.
