Women’s Basketball powers past Slippery Rock, 90-86

Moyer (19 pts. 15 reb.) and Ryan (15 pts. 15 reb.) record big double-doubles

Box Score SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.  – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (7-15, 4-14 PSAC) downed Slippery Rock (4-18, 3-15 PSAC), 90-86 tonight on the road in a PSAC West battle.

LHU got a number of big performances tonight, led by Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) and Kelsey Ryan (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy).

Moyer, netted 19 points and tied a career-high with15 rebounds, as she recorded her fifth double-double of the season.

Ryan scored 15 points and pulled down 15 rebounds of her own, setting a new career-high.  The junior forward shot a highly-efficient 6-of-9 from the field.

It was Ryan's fifth double-double of the season as well.

Sami Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) led LHU in scoring with a career-high 21 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field.

The score was close throughout the game, as the two teams battled back-and-forth.  With 1:50 to play, and the game tied at 80-80, Emily Daugherty (Laughlintown, Pa./Ligonier Valley) drilled a huge three-pointer to put LHU up 83-80.

With seven seconds to play and LHU clinging to an 88-86 lead, Lane iced the game with two free throws to preserve the win.

Daugherty finished with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists.

The Lady Eagles got a huge game from their bench, outscoring Slippery Rock 46-23 in bench points.

Lock Haven's 90 points are the second most that LHU has scored in a game this season and the win snapped a seven game losing skid.

Alexas Brown led Slippery Rock with 26 points on the night.

The Lady Eagles are back in action Saturday (February 16) when LHU hosts California (Pa.) in the first game of a three-game home stand.  LHU basketball will also be celebrating its “Hooping for a Cure” night against CAL.  “Hooping for a Cure” is a fundraiser set up by the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) to promote breast cancer.  Tipoff on Saturday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
