Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (6-17, 4-16 PSAC) dropped rival Clarion (6-18, 4-16 PSAC) tonight, 75-68 in a PSAC West clash at Thomas Fieldhouse.
Lock Haven used a balance attack to hang with Clarion in the first half. Eight different Bald Eagles scored in the period, led by
Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia/Neumann Goretti), who tallied eight points.
Clarion led at the break, 36-34.
The two teams remained knotted for most of the second half, with neither squad able to gain a significant advantage.
Trailing 65-63 with 5:08 to play, The Haven turned it up on both ends of the floor. LHU stifled Clarion's offense, holding the Golden Eagles without a field goal for the next 4:41.
The Bald Eagles closed out the game on a 12-3 run to come away with the win and snap their 13-game losing skid.
Hepburn paced four different Bald Eagles in double-figure scoring on the night. He finished with a game-high 20 points and added nine rebounds.
Senior
Armandi Marshall (Philadelphia/Olney East) tied a season-high with 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and a he went a perfect 7-of-7 shooting from the free throw line.
Kasheef Festus (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carrol) was big down low and notched a double-double, recording 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
LHU got a big boost from its bench tonight, led by
Elijah Cooper (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) and
Nate Walters (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley).
Cooper and Walters both came up big down the stretch for The Haven and they finished with 11 and eight points, respectively.
The Bald Eagles out-rebounded Clarion 43-28 tonight and LHU won the game at the free throw line, as they shot 81.3% (26-of-32) for the game.
Mike Kromka led Clarion with 16 points on the night.
Coming into tonight, LHU had lost 44 straight games to PSAC West opponents. It was their first win over a PSAC West opponent since February 6, 2010 when LHU downed Edinboro 91-90 in three overtimes.
The Bald Eagles are back in action Saturday (February 23) when LHU hosts Gannon in the final home game of the season at Thomas Fieldhouse. The Bald Eagles will honor their seniors at this time. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
