Softball teams up with National MS Society to “Knock MS Out of the Park”

2/26/2013 3:15:00 PM

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team is set to team with the National MS Society for the seventh straight year, as LHU aim to “Knock MS Out of the Park”.

The LHU Softball team's 2013 season has begun and with the start of each new season, the team begins its quest to Knock MS Out of the Park.  Over the last five years LHU softball has raised approximately $20,000. Last year's team was able to raise just over $2,000 for this worthy cause.

This year's team hopes to surpass last year's fundraising efforts.  The team is asking for donors to assist in this cause. As a donor, you can choose to pledge a dollar amount per home run hit by the Lady Eagles, or you can opt to pledge a flat donation.  All proceeds from this event directly benefit the National MS Society.  To show their commitment, LHU Softball will again be pledging $5 per home run hit this year. Any individual who matches this pledge will receive a free LHU Softball hat.  Step up to the plate with us to help fight this disease!

MS & its special significance to LHU Softball:

Former LHU Head Coach and Alumna, Kim Lindsey (formerly Hasson) was diagnosed with MS in 1993.  Kim was a member of the 1988 NCAA DII National Championship Runner-up squad. She then coached the Lady Eagles from 1990-1999. Many of you may know Kim as she has been on campus since 1985 and remains here as our Equipment Coordinator in the Department of Athletics.

Knock MS Out of the Park Game:

On Friday, April 19th the LHU Softball team will be hosting their annual Knock MS Out of the Park Game versus East Stroudsburg University at 2 p.m. on Lawrence Field.  More details about this event will be available shortly.

Ruby Tuesday Community Give-back Program:

Lock Haven softball is also teaming up with Ruby Tuesday to help “Knock MS Out of the Park”.  Through its Community Give-back Program, Ruby Tuesday will donate 20% of all purchases to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society on behalf of LHU softball.

To participate in the Give-back Program, simply give the flier below to your server at Ruby Tuesday's on March 12.

How will my donation help?

Participation in this program goes a long way to help eliminate MS and better the lives of those already affected.  MS is a disease that affects the central nervous system and approximately 400,000 Americans have been diagnosed with MS in the United States.  Contributions raised from the Knock MS out of the Park program will directly benefit the National MS Society.

LHU Softball is proud to Knock MS out of the Park and hopes you will join the team in this important cause!

Attached, please find a pledge form for you to join in our fight against MS.  Donations will be accepted through May 31st.  All checks should be made payable to the National MS Society. All credit card donations will be included in our final donation to the National MS Society in June. Please return pledge forms to:
