Bald Eagles fall in home PSAC matchup with Mercyhurst

Hepburn leads all scorers with 18 points

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (5-14, 3-13 PSAC) fell 57-40 to Mercyhurst (13-9, 9-7 PSAC) tonight in a PSAC West matchup at Thomas Fieldhouse.

Neither team was able to get much going offensively in the first half and the Bald Eagles trailed Mercyhurst, 25-20 at the break.

Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia/Neumann Goretti), who entered the night as the PSAC's leading scorer, tallied a game-high nine points at the half.

Elijah Cooper (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) had a strong first half off of The Haven bench.  Cooper scored seven points and was 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the period.

The Bald Eagles quickly erased the five point half time deficit and with 13:32 to play, LHU evened the score at 32-32 when Hepburn drilled a pull-up three-pointer.

Mercyhurst answered however, and the Lakers went on a 10-4 run over the next six minutes to take a 42-36 lead with 7:23 to play.  Mercyhurst outscored LHU 23-6 over the final 10 minutes of play.

Hepburn led all scorers with 18 points on the night.  He added five rebounds and dished out two assists.

Kasheef Festus (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carrol) netted nine points on 4-of-8 shooting in the game.

Mercyhurst was led by Jean Onana's 15 points.

The Bald Eagles are back in action Saturday (February 9) when LHU travels to Edinboro to take on the Fighting Scots.  Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
