Haven battles tough with Edinboro; Drops 82-72 decision on the road

Festus and Hepburn both record double-doubles

Box Score EDINBORO, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (5-15, 3-14 PSAC)  fell in a tough PSAC West road matchup with Edinboro (14-7, 10-7 PSAC) this afternoon, 82-72.

The Bald Eagles trailed EU, 35-25 at halftime.  Junior forward Kasheef Festus (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carrol) led The Haven with eight points and 10 rebounds in the opening period.

LHU trailed 54-43 with 12:42 to play in the game, but the Bald Eagles came storming back with an 8-0 run over the next 1:08 to cut the Fighting Scot lead to just three, 54-51.

A few minutes later, LHU pulled even with Edinboro for the first time in the second half, when Armandi Marshall (Philadelphia/Olney East) hit a layup that evened the score at 56-56.

Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia/Neumann Goretti) hit two free throws to give The Haven its first lead of the second half, 60-58 with 8:18 to play.

Edinboro answered however, as the Fighting Scots went on an 18-2 run to take a 76-62 lead with 2:58 to play.

Hepburn led all scorers with 22 points.  He shot 11-of-13 from the free throw line and added 10 rebounds and a career-high eight assists.

It was Hepburn's fifth double-double of the season.

Festus finished with 17 points and a season-high 14 rebounds on the day.  The double-double was Festus' fourth of the season.

Hepburn and Festus are the first LHU duo to each record double-figures in rebounds since the 2009-10 season (Eric Brennan 14, Warren Christian 13).

Nate Walters (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) netted nine points and grabbed five rebounds in his second start of the season.

Marshall finished with six points and seven rebounds off of the bench.

Jay Fletcher led Edinboro with 19 points.

The Bald Eagles return home on Wednesday (February 13) when LHU travels to Slippery Rock for a PSAC West matchup.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
