Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (4-8) fell to defending NCAA Division II National Champion West Chester University (8-8-1) today, 5-4 in The Haven's final game of its Florida spring break trip.
The two teams were tied 4-4 heading into the final inning of play and West Chester picked up the win on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.
LHU jumped out to an early lead and got a solid pitching performance today.
Ryan Henritzy (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) got things going for LHU in the top of the third inning, when he smoked a double over the left fielder's head that scored
Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) from first base.
Still up 1-0 in the sixth, LHU added two more runs to take a 3-0 lead.
Anthony Kyne (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn State Brandywine) started the two-run rally with a double.
Tyler Yesensky (Endwell, N.Y./Old Dominion Univ.) came up next and drove in Kyne with a single.
Matt Hendrixson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) then sent a screaming line drive down the right field line for a triple, scoring Yesensky in the process and giving LHU the 3-0 lead.
West Chester would answer in its half of the sixth, however. The Rams plated four runs in the inning and took the lead, 4-3.
The Haven would answer back in the top half of the 8th inning when
Scott Zuback (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) stole third base and scored on a passed ball to even the score at 4-4.
After a scoreless ninth for LHU, the Rams hit an RBI single with one out to plate the winning run in the bottom of the inning.
Joe Nestor (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) had a strong outing on the mound for LHU. Nestor allowed just three runs in 5.2 innings of work. He struck out five Rams.
Freshman
Aaron Lidgett (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch) was solid in relief for The Haven. He threw 2.2 innings of relief and allowed just two hits.
LHU closed out its Florida trip with a 3-3 record.
The Bald Eagles return to action on Saturday (March 23) when LHU hosts Slippery Rock in its 2013 home opener as well as its PSAC West opener. First pitch for Saturday's games at Foundation Field are scheduled for 1 p.m.
