Baseball drops road doubleheader to first-place California

Haven falls in game one, 4-2; Bald Eagles shutout in game two, 11-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (11-16, 6-8 PSAC West) fell on the road today to PSAC Western Division leading California (Pa.) (23-8, 9-1 PSAC West), 4-2 and 11-0.

The Bald Eagles out-hit CAL, 9-8 in the game one loss.

Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) led the way for LHU, as he went 3-for-4 at the dish.  Hartman drove in one RBI.

Dakota Roof (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) and Austin Botts (Seven Valleys, Pa./Wingate Univ.) each went 2-for-4 for The Haven.

Trailing 4-2 in the top of the seventh inning, the Bald Eagles brought the go-ahead run to the plate, but CAL closer Kyle Petty shut the door on The Haven.

Joe Nestor (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) threw all six innings for LHU.  He allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out two.

CAL got off to a quick start in game two and never looked back.  The Vulcans scored eight runs in the first three innings.

California (Pa.) starter Justin Taylor threw a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits in the 11-0 win.

Scott Zuback (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain), Casey Hamilton (Roaring Spring, Pa./Central Martinsburg) and Jeff Ross (Danville, Pa./Danville) each had one hit for The Haven.

Lock Haven and California (Pa.) close out its weekend series tomorrow in a crucial doubleheader at Foundation Field.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

- Cal entered today's game ranked third in the Atlantic Region.
- The Vulcans are currently in first place in the PSAC West.
- LHU is now in fifth place in the PSAC West.
- The two teams close out their weekend series tomorrow, when the Bald Eagles host CAL at 1 p.m.
