Softball sweeps Georgian Court

Haven wins 3-1 and takes game-two, 5-4 in 10-inning thriller

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LOCK HAVEN, Pa.  – The Lock Haven University softball team swept a home non-conference doubleheader today, downing Georgian Court 3-1 and 5-4 (10 innings).

Lock Haven (24-7) got a pair of wins from pitcher Brianna Jennings (Wyalusing, Pa./Wyalusing) and a home run in each game from Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton), as LHU beat Georgian Court (20-22) 3-1 in game one, before a thrilling 10-inning grudge match in game two, that LHU eventually won, 5-4.

Jennings struck out seven in game one and N. Smith drilled a three-run home run in the bottom of the third, giving The Haven its only runs on the way to its 23rd win of the year.

N. Smith was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run scored, while Bridgette Clarke (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) was 3-for-3 at the plate in game one.

Lock Haven jumped on Georgian Court early in game two, as N. Smith hit her second home run of the day. Her two-run shot in the bottom of the first, put LHU up 2-0.

LHU lead 4-0 after six, but the Lions rallied for four runs of their own in the top of the seventh.

Lock Haven put it away however in the bottom of the 10th when Alicia Cacciotti (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) drilled one up the middle, driving in Chelsea Edwards (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) from second for the victory.

N. Smith had another big game in game two. She finished 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Cacciotti was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Jennings threw the final 3 and 1/3 innings on the way to her 18th win of the season. She struck out three.

The Lady Eagles return to action on Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m. when they host East Stroudsburg University.

Game Notes:
- Yesterday, LHU split with Shippensburg. The game-one win marked the 100th in the four-year career of head coach Kelly Shannon.
- LHU's three game-one runs came off six hits.
- LHU's five game-two runs came off seven hits.
- In both games, Georgian Court outhit LHU with nine and 12 hits, respectively.
- Brianna Jennings is now 18-1 on the year.
- Nicole Smith homered in each game, giving her a team-high five home runs on the season.
