Baseball walks off with game two win; LHU splits home doubleheader with UPJ

Kyne comes up with walk-off single in the eighth inning of game two after Diaz ties the game in the seventh with a solo homerun

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (14-18) split a home doubleheader today with the University of Pitt-Johnstown (22-17) in non-conference action.

After falling in game one, 2-1, the Bald Eagles came roaring back for a walk-off, 8-7 (8 inn.) win in game two.

Game one featured a pitchers dual between LHU's Joe Nestor (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) and UPJ's Andrew Keirn.

Nestor threw 6.1 innings and allowed two runs, while scattering seven hits.  He struck out six in the loss.

Keirn went the distance for UPJ as he threw a complete-game, two-hitter.  Keirn recorded seven strikeouts.

Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) had both of LHU's  hits in game one, as he went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

In game two, LHU trailed 7-6 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, when senior Jose Diaz (Oak Ridge, N.J./Gloucester County College) hooked a fly ball deep down the left field line that smacked off of the foul pole for a solo homerun.

It was Diaz's second homerun of the season and sent the game into extra innings with the two teams knotted at 7-7.

After a scoreless top half of the eighth, LHU loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom half of the inning and Anthony Kyne (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn State Brandywine) roped a single to left field for the walk off victory.

Kyne finished 2-for-4 in the game.

Diaz and Tyler Yesensky (Endwell, N.Y./Old Dominion Univ.) both went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Hartman was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Freshman Aaron Lidgett (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch) picked up his first career win in two scoreless innings of relief for LHU.

Lock Haven and Pitt-Johnstown play again tomorrow (Sunday, April 21) in a non-conference doubleheader at Point Park in Johnstown, Pa.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
