Lady Eagles swept at Mansfield in PSAC Central action

Lock Haven (11-3) holds one-game PSAC Central lead over Mansfield & Bloomsburg, who are both 10-4

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MANSFIELD, Pa.  – The Lock Haven University softball team dropped both games of a PSAC Central doubleheader today at Mansfield.

Lock Haven (28-10, 11-3 PSAC Central) lost 8-2 and 5-4 as Mansfield (24-12, 10-4 PSAC Central) picked up the huge sweep at home.

Lock Haven, who is 11-3 in PSAC action, still holds a one-game lead on both Mansfield and Bloomsburg in the PSAC Central standings. Bloomsburg and Mansfield are both 10-4 in the division and play each other tomorrow. Lock Haven hosts IUP at 1 p.m.

Mansfield scored three runs in the bottom of third and five in the bottom of the fourth as the Mountaineers jumped out to an 8-0 lead in game one.

Alicia Cacciotti (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) has a strong game at the plate for LHU as she turned in a 3-for-4 outing.

Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton) homered in the top of the seventh as she tried to spark a Haven rally.

The loss was the just the third of the year for pitcher Brianna Jennings (Wyalusing, Pa./Wyalusing). She struck out four in 3 and 1/3 innings of work.

Despite three game-two home runs, LHU fell, 5-4.

Two of Lock Haven three game-two home runs came in the top of the sixth inning when back-to-back home runs from Chelsea Edwards (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and Jennings put LHU up 4-2.

Smith hit her second home run of the day when she drilled one to left field in the top of the third for the 1-0 lead.

Smith finished game two, 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored.

Jennings did everything she could to help her own cause with a 3-for-3 plate performance.

Jennings struck out six in the loss.

Lock Haven is right back at it tomorrow (Saturday, April 27) when the Lady Eagles close out the regular season against IUP (1 p.m.).

Game Notes:
- Lock Haven still holds a one-game lead in the PSAC Central standings. Bloomsburg and Mansfield play each other tomorrow, while LHU hosts IUP.
- Today marked the first time all season where LHU was swept in doubleheader action.
- LHU hit three home runs in game two. Lock Haven has 21 on the year.
- Nicole Smith homered in each game. She now has team-high seven on the season.
- With both losses today, Haven ace Brianna Jennings is now 20-4 with 120 Ks and an ERA of 1.63.
