Box Score 2 LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (11-12, 6-4 PSAC) swept both games of doubleheader today with PSAC West foe Mercyhurst (19-13, 4-6 PSAC) in a crucial doubleheader at Foundation Field.
Lock Haven, who received votes in last week's regional poll, powered its way to a 13-4 win in game one and the Bald Eagles squeezed out a 4-3 win in game two.
The Lakers jumped on top early in game one with three runs in the second inning.
LHU answered in its half of the second, as the Bald Eagles batted around the order and plated six runs to take a 6-3 lead.
Austin Botts (Seven Valleys, Pa./Wingate Univ.) got the inning going with a solo shot to left field. It was Botts' third homerun of the season.
The Bald Eagles kept the rally going and with two on and nobody out,
Tyler Yesensky (Endwell, N.Y./Old Dominion Univ.) smoked a line drive up the middle that cut the Laker lead to 3-2.
Later in the inning, with the score even at 3-3,
Ryan Henritzy (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) sent a three-run bomb over the left field wall to put The Haven on top, 6-3.
Lock Haven got the bats going again in the bottom of the fourth, as The Haven strung together five straight hits and plated four more runs to open up the lead, 10-3.
LHU never looked back from there, on their way to the 13-4 win.
Joe Nestor (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) was sensational in relief for LHU. Nestor took the mound in the third inning and threw the rest of the game. He struck out six and allowed just one run on his way to his first win of the season.
Every Bald Eagle that played in the game recorded a hit.
Dakota Roof (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) went 3-for-4 with a triple in the game. He drove in two RBIs.
Anthony Kyne (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn State Brandywine) also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Henritzy finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Botts went 2-for-4.
The Bald Eagles got a solid pitching performance from starter
Alec Jacob (Newtown, Pa./Pennsbury) in their game two win.
Jacob threw 6.0 innings and allowed just two earned runs, as he picked up his third win of the year.
The Bald Eagles scored all four of their runs against Mercyhurst starter Ben Rawding, who is one of the top pitchers in the region.
With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, LHU struck for two runs.
Scott Zuback (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) drove in the first Haven run of the inning on an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch.
Zuback had three of LHU's five hits in the game and stole two bases.
Freshman
Aaron Lidgett (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch) recorded the final three outs of the game and picked up his first save of the season.
The loss for Rawding was his first in his last 19 starts.
Lock Haven and Mercyhurst close out their weekend series tomorrow (Saturday, April 6) when the two teams square off at the Mercyhurst Baseball Field. First pitch of tomorrow's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
