Jennings leads Haven sweep of Clarion; Tomorrow’s home-opener set for noon start

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLARION, Pa.  – The Lock Haven University softball team swept Clarion University today in PSAC Central action, thanks to a tremendous individual effort by Brianna Jennings (Wyalusing, Pa./Wyalusing).

Lock Haven (16-5, 3-1 PSAC Central) beat Clarion (3-7, 0-4 PSAC Central) 7-5 and 4-3 as Jennings picked up the win both games.

Jennings was the story in the game-one win. She struck out 10 and scattered five hits on the way to her 10th win of the year.

Jennings helped her own cause by going 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run and four RBIs.

She drove in a run in the top of the second and her three-run home run in the top of the sixth sparked a six-run inning for the Lady Eagles.

Lock Haven's other seven game-one hits came from seven different players including Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton), who drove in a pair of runs for LHU.

Jennings picked up the win in the circle in game-two, improving to 11-0 on the year. She pitched the final 3 and 1/3 innings of action. She struck out three, gave up four hits and allowed zero runs on the way to the win.

N. Smith had Lock Haven's big bat in game two. She was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI.

Trailing 3-2 in the top of the sixth inning, Lock Haven scored two runs thanks to solo home runs by N. Smith and Chelsea Edwards (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham).

It was Edwards's fourth home run of the season.

Lock Haven is right back at it tomorrow (Sunday, April 7) as the Lady Eagles will host Slippery Rock at noon in their 2013 home-opener.

Game Notes:
- Lock Haven's seven game-one runs came off nine hits.
- Lock Haven's four game-two runs came off seven hits.
- Brianna Jennings is now 11-0 on the year. She has 69 Ks and a 0.94 ERA.
- Tomorrow (Sunday, April 7) marks Lock Haven's 2013 home-opener. The non-conference DH with Slippery Rock was moved up to a noon start in hopes of beating inclement weather that is being called for in the afternoon.
