Box Score 3 CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team went 1-2 today in Atlantic Region 1 play and the Lady Eagles were eliminated from the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
Lock Haven lost to West Chester 10-1, beat Chowan 10-2 and closed the season with a 9-1 loss to No. 8 California (Pa.).
In Lock Haven's NCAA opening-game, the Lady Eagles fell to West Chester, 10-1 in six innings in a game that began yesterday, but was postponed until today because of severe weather.
The Golden Rams led, 7-1 with two outs in the top of the fourth when the game was postponed yesterday. WCU tacked on three more runs (today) in the top of sixth.
Lock Haven's lone run came in the bottom of the first when
Nicole Smith (Milton, Pa./Milton) hit a solo home run.
Alicia Cacciotti (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) was 2-for-3 at the plate.
Brianna Jennings (Wyalusing, Pa./Wyalusing) took the loss after 2 and 1/3 innings. She struck out three, before giving way to
Sarah Morse (Dover, N.H./Dover), who gave up eight hits in 3 and 2/3 innings.
Lock Haven stayed alive with its dominating, 10-2, five-inning win over Chowan.
LHU scored its 10 runs on 14 hits including a Cacciotti, two-run homer in the bottom of fourth.
Chowan struck first, scoring two in the top of first, but LHU responded with four runs in the bottom of the second. The Lady Eagles added three runs in both the fourth and fifth for the huge elimination-game win.
Smith was a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBIs at the plate. Jennings was also a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored.
Nikki Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) added a pair of hits.
Jennings struck out four on the way to the win.
Lock Haven's season ended with a 9-1 (five innings) loss to No. 8 California (Pa.).
Five Lady Eagles accounted for The Haven's five hits vs. Cal. Jennings had one hit and drove in Lock Haven's only run.
Lock Haven closes the season at 29-16 overall and 2013 marked The Haven's 10th straight post-season appearance.

- The game with West Chester started yesterday (Friday, May 10), but after several lengthy weather-delays the game was postponed at 3:15 p.m. (yesterday) until this morning. The weather-delay lasted a total of 19-plus hours.
- Coming into today's action (Game 1), West Chester led 7-1 with 2 outs and runner on second in the top of fourth inning.
- 2013 marked Lock Haven's 10th straight post-season appearance and third straight NCAA Tournament.
- Last year, Lock Haven went 3-2 at the NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament, dropping the Region 2 final to West Virginia Wesleyan, 1-0. LHU and the Bobcats locked up in a brilliant-pitcher's duel last year. With the win, W.Va. Wesleyan advanced to the Super-Regionals. It marks the second straight year the Bobcats eliminated Lock Haven from the NCAA Tournament.
- LHU entered the 2013 NCAA Tournament 28-14 overall and despite a 0-2 performance at the PSAC Tournament and a four-game losing skid to close the regular season, The Haven received the No. 5 seed. West Chester, the No. 4 seed was 34-19 overall and the Golden Rams went 2-2 at last week's PSAC Tournament. California (Pa.) was awarded the No. 1 overall seed from the Atlantic Region and will play host to Lock Haven, West Chester and Chowan in the Atlantic Region 1 bracket. Shippensburg, the No 2 seed will play host to Bloomsburg, West Virginia State and Kutztown in the Atlantic Region 2 bracket

Bridgette Clarke was named to the NFCA All-Atlantic Region Second Team.
