LHU opens 2013 season at home on Fri., Aug. 30 (2 p.m.) vs. #1 UNC – Haven home again Sun., Sept. 1 vs. local-rival Bucknell (noon)

The Lock Haven University field hockey team is set for a pair of home games this weekend as the Lady Eagles open the 2013 season.

Lock Haven's first test is an exciting one, as LHU welcomes the nation's top-ranked team to Charlotte Smith Field on Friday at 2 p.m. No. 1 North Carolina received 33-of-50 first places votes in this week's preseason NFHCA poll.

LHU hosts Bucknell on Sunday at noon.

2013 Preseason LHU Game Notes:

2012 at a glance:
Last year, Lock Haven went 11-9 overall and finished 2-5 in A-10 play. Highlighting the season was a pair of conference wins over Saint Joseph's and Saint Louis as well as a thrilling non-conference, 2-1 double-overtime win over Cornell.

All-Region:
Senior Kelly Harsh was an All-Region selection following a strong 2012 season. Harsh, who started all 20 games for Lock Haven last year, landed a spot on the All-Mideast Second Team. The two-way standout led the Lady Eagles defensively, while also leading the team in goals and points, including seven goals and 19 points, respectively.

All-Conference:
LHU returns a pair of All-Atlantic 10 players, including Nakira Downes and Steph Ebersole. Last year Downes was a Second Team selection and Ebersole landed on the All-Rookie Team.

Picked fourth:
Lock Haven was picked fourth in the Atlantic 10 preseason coaches' poll. Massachusetts was tabbed as the preseason favorite with Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth rounding out the top-three teams.

Fresh faces:
There are plenty of new names for Haven fans to learn this year as LHU has nine freshmen and one sophomore-transfer.

Home sweet home:
Four of Lock Haven's first five games this season are at home on Charlotte Smith Field. The Lady Eagles were 6-5 at home last year.

#1 UNC:
- This is the first-ever meeting between LHU & UNC.
- The Tar Heels have won back-to-back ACC titles.
- UNC lost to Princeton, 3-2 in last year's National Title game.
- UNC, who went 23-2 last year, returns 12 letterwinners.

Local-rival Bucknell:
- Last year, Bucknell beat LHU, 3-1.
- Bucknell opens the 2013 season tomorrow vs. No. 13 Iowa.
- Lock Haven is 34-6-3 all-time vs. Bucknell.
