LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Freshman Kiersten Cepeda (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) scored her first career goal and Elaina White (Etters, Pa./Red Land) was once again brilliant in goal, as the Lock Haven University field hockey team earned a hard-fought, 1-0 win over Bucknell.
The Lady Eagles (1-1) picked up their first win of the year on Cepeda's 17th minute strike. LHU got another strong defensive effort from a number of players and it proved to be the difference in beating Bucknell (0-2).
With the win, LHU improves to 35-6-3 all-time vs. its local-rival.
White followed up a brilliant 12-save effort on Friday vs. North Carolina with another strong outing today. She made four saves on the way to the shutout-victory.
Cepeda's goal came after the rookie knocked in her own rebound on the far post on just Lock Haven's second shot of the game.
The two teams battled up and down the field in the second half, with both LHU and Bucknell creating several good scoring opportunities.
Jenna Felice (Endicott, N.Y./Maine Endwell) and Rebekah Hershey (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) led Lock Haven's strong
defensive effort.
Nakira Downes (Bridgetown, Barbados/The Combermere School) provided a midfield spark for LHU today as she broke in past the Bucknell several times creating chances up front for The Haven.
LHU held a slight advantage in shots, 6-5 and for the second straight time faced a number of penalty corners.
Lock Haven returns to action on Friday, September 6 at 5 p.m. at Cornell in non-conference action.

- Lock Haven opened the 2013 season on Friday at home vs. No. 1 North Carolina. UNC won, 2-1 despite a brilliant defensive effort from The Haven. UNC, the nation's top-ranked team has won back-to-back ACC titles and lost in the national finals a year ago.

- Bucknell opened the season on Friday as well, dropping a, 3-1 decision to No. 13 Iowa in Easton, Pa.
Bucknell beat Lock Haven, 3-1 last year in Lewisburg.
- Last year, Lock Haven went 11-9 overall and finished 2-5 in A-10 play.
- Senior Kelly Harsh was an All-Region selection last season. The two-way standout led the Lady Eagles defensively, while also leading the team in goals and points with seven and 19, respectively.
- LHU returns a pair of All-Atlantic 10 players, including Nakira Downes and Steph Ebersole. Last year Downes was a Second Team selection and Ebersole landed on the All-Rookie Team.
- Lock Haven was picked fourth in the Atlantic 10 preseason coaches' poll.
