Box Score CLARION, Pa. – Brandon Brader (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) recorded his second straight two-touchdown game, but it wasn't enough for the Lock Haven University football team as the Bald Eagles fell to former PSAC Western Division rival Clarion, 30-13 tonight on the road.
Brader rushed for 121 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries. He also caught one touchdown pass for his second straight two-TD game. His 121 rushing yards helped him surpass the 2,000 yard mark for his career. He now has 2,014 career rushing yards and is ranked No. 6 on Lock Haven's all-time career rushing list.
Brader also caught a 14-yard TD pass from
Dillon Mazzoni (Melbourne, Fla./Shippensburg Univ.) with 35 seconds left in the first half to put LHU on the board. The touchdown made it 17-6 Clarion at the break.
After a scoreless first quarter, Clarion scored 17 point in the second half and the Golden Eagles tacked on six in the third quarter to pave the way for the victory.
LHU didn't go away however and Brader's 45-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter cut the lead to just 23-13.
Bobby Thomas's 37-yard touchdown run with just under nine minutes to play helped Clarion hold off the LHU rally.
Mazzoni was 12-of-23 passing for 149 yards in his second career start. He passed for one TD and had one interception.
Jesse Hoover (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville) made a game-high seven catches for 79 yards.
Tony Ballon (Jersey City, N.J./Harrisburg) had another big night for LHU on defense and finished with a team-high 10 tackles.
Matt Kirchner (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) was also solid with nine tackles, including one sack.
Lock Haven returns home next Saturday, September 21 for LHU's 2013 Community Day. The Bald Eagles host Cheyney at 6 p.m. Admission and parking will be free for everyone.
