Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (10-6, 3-3 PSAC East) won a hard fought game over Kutztown University (4-12, 2-4 PSAC East), 62-58 today in a conference matchup at Thomas Fieldhouse.
The first half of the game featured a defensive battle, as neither team was able to get much going offensively.
LHU trailed, 32-27 at the break.
Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia/Neumann Goretti) led The Haven with eight points and five assists in the period.
The game remained tight throughout the entire second half. The Bald Eagles took their first lead of the game, 34-33 with 15:16 remaining. The two teams swapped the lead 11 times over the remainder of the game.
With just 16 seconds remaining and the game tied at, 58-58 the Bald Eagles turned to Hepburn, who drove to his right and floated the ball off the glass and drew a foul for an old-fashioned three-point-play that ignited The Haven fans.
Hepburn hit the free throw giving LHU the lead, 61-58. After a missed Kutztown three, Hepburn iced the game at the line, preserving the, 62-58 win for Lock Haven.
The Bald Eagles held KU to just 29.6% (8-for-27) shooting from the field in the second half.
Hepburn finished with 28 points, including 20 in the second half. He added six assists, four rebounds and two blocks.
Theo West (Philadelphia/Kensington) was huge for LHU off the bench today. He netted eight points, grabbed six rebounds and was great defensively all game.
Kasheef Festus (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carroll) scored seven points and pulled down eight boards for The Haven.
For the second straight game,
Bootsie Walker (Chester, Pa./Chester) pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds. He added six points and three steals.
Josh Johnson led Kutztown with 15 points.
The win moves the Bald Eagles to 10-6 on the year, marking the first 10-win season for LHU since 2002-03.
Tonight's win moves Lock Haven into a tie for fourth in the PSAC Eastern Division.
Lock Haven returns to action next Wednesday (January 22) when the Bald Eagles host Millersville in a PSAC East matchup. Tipoff at Thomas Fieldhouse is set for 8 p.m.
