Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (4-12, 2-4 PSAC East) picked up a huge conference win over visiting Kutztown (6-10, 3-3 PSAC East) today, 66-51.
Sami Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) and senior
Kelsey Ryan (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) led LHU with 16 and 11 points, respectively in the win. Ryan added five rebounds and shot 100% from the free throw line.
The Lady Eagles jumped ahead early in the first half, 10-0 and held Kutztown to just 14 points in the period.
LHU shot 71.4% from the free throw line and closed the half with a, 32-14 lead at the break.
The Lady Eagles continued to gain momentum in the second half with two layups by Ryan and
Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) to stretch the lead to 18 points with 6:19 left in the period.
Ryan and Lane paced the Haven attack all period. The Lady Eagles held Kuztown to just two second chance points and zero three-pointers in the second period.
The Lady Eagles executed strong defensive play to seal the victory.
Marrysa Moyer (Altoona. Pa/Mansfield Univ.) once against showed to be an all-around threat as she netted eight points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win. Moyer dished out two assists and added three steals.
Redshirt junior
Emily Daugherty (Laughlintown, Pa./Ligonier Valley) scored 14 points in the win.
Sophomore
J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) led LHU with a game-high six assists and netted eight points. Hilliard added two steals in 28 minutes of action.
Hannah Gildea (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) was a defensive spark off the bench grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds. Gildea added seven points and a steal in just 26 minutes.
LHU shot 72.2% from the free throw line and netted 32 points in the paint in the win.
Advia Campbell led Kutztown with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Lock Haven returns to action on Wednesday, January 22 against visiting Millersville (6 p.m.).
