Men’s Basketball: #6 IUP narrowly escapes with win over soaring Bald Eagles

Hepburn nets 23 points; Walters has strong all-around game in defeat

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (7-5) played toe-to-toe with perennial national power and No. 6 ranked Indiana (Pa.) (12-0), but fell at home today, 70-64.

The Bald Eagles, who were entered today on a three game winning streak, played inspiring basketball throughout the game, but couldn't overcome a hot-shooting second half from IUP.

The first 20 minutes featured a defensive back-and-forth battle with five ties and 11 lead changes.

The Bald Eagles held the Crimson Hawks to just 27.6% (8-for-29) shooting in the first period.

Trailing, 24-23, with just 0:03 left in the half, Al Blount (Northampton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) drilled a three from the short corner to put The Haven up, 26-24 at the break.

Senior Nate Walters (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) had a big first half for LHU. He led the way with seven points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from the field and dished out three assists.

Lock Haven opened up the second half in stride, and pulled out to a, 44-34 lead with 14:21 remaining.

IUP answered however, with an, 18-4 run and took the lead, 52-48 with 7:42 remaining, a lead that the Crimson Hawks never relinquished.

Indiana's comeback was credited to outstanding shooting in the second half. The Crimson Hawks shot 60.9% (14-for-23) from the field and hit 7-of-11 attempted three's in the period.

Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) netted a team-high 23 points, including 19 in the second half. He added five rebounds and three assists.

Walters finished with 12 points, six rebounds and a career-high four assists.

Bootsie Walker (Chester, Pa./Chester) chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.

Kasheef Festus (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carroll) added five points, five rebounds and a career-best four blocks.

Marcel Souberbielle led IUP with 26 points, including 19 in the second half. He hit four three-pointers on the day.

Lock Haven returns to action Wednesday, January 8 when the Bald Eagles travel to Seton Hill for a PSAC crossover matchup. Tipoff is set for 7:30.
