Wrestling downed at West Virginia, 18-12

Bald Eagles get four wins on night, including two upsets, but Haven falls to former EWL rival

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team (2-5) picked up four wins, including a pair of upsets, but the Bald Eagles fell to host West Virginia (9-2), 18-12 in non-conference action.
 
Kaleb LeMaire (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Caesar Rodney), Cody Wheeler (Towanda, Pa./Towanda), Jake Kemerer (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and Fred Garcia (Donora, Pa./Ringgold) all picked up wins for Lock Haven.
 
Wheeler and Kemerer both scored upset-wins over nationally ranked opponents and Garcia improved to perfect 7-0 in dual action, but it wasn't enough to upend The Haven's former Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) foe.
 
The Bald Eagles jumped out to an early 6-0 lead thanks to wins at 125 and 133.
 
LeMaire beat Cory Stainbrook 6-1 at 125 and Wheeler upset 19th ranked Nathan Pennesi in overtime at 133.
 
The Mountaineers picked up three straight wins, taking a 9-6 lead after five bouts.
 
Kemerer tied things up at 9-9 with a 3-2 upset of No. 31 Ross Renzi at 165.
 
WVU took the lead again with a win at 174, but it was once again short lived as Garcia tied it up with a 4-1 decision at 184.
 
West Virginia sealed their 21st all-time win vs. Lock Haven with wins at 197 and 285.
 
Lock Haven returns to action next weekend when the Bald Eagles travel to the Virginia Duals.
 
The 34th Virginia Duals will be held at the historic Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Va. On Friday and Saturday, January 10-11. LHU is one of 14 teams set to compete in the National College Division.

Twelve Bald Eagles took part in today's Franklin & Marshall Open today, competing both attached and unattached … Leading the way for LHU at F&M was Bobby Rehm and Aaron McKinney, who both competed unattached … McKinney was second at 165 and Rehm was third at 141 … Last season, Lock Haven beat WVU 19-15, marking the first Haven win over WVU since 2005 and snapping a seven-match losing streak … WVU leads the all-time series 21-15 … LHU hasn't beaten West Virginia two consecutive times since 1995 & '96 … On Monday, Dan Neff (141) was named the EWL Athlete of the Week following his dominating performance at last Sunday's (12/29) Cradle Gear Invitational hosted by LHU … Neff went 4-0 on the way to the title and was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler … Cody Wheeler (133), Mac Maldarelli (149) and Fred Garcia (184) were all second at the Cradle Gear Invite.
