Hepburn drops 35 points to lead LHU over Seton Hill, 82-77

Hepburn nets season-high 35 points, grabs 10 boards in huge road win

Box Score GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (8-5) picked up a huge road win tonight over Seton Hill (10-4), 82-77 in the final PSAC crossover game of the year for the Bald Eagles.

Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti), had a huge night for the Bald Eagles, scoring 35 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

LHU played an outstanding first half and never trailed in the period.  The Haven held a, 38-32 lead at the break. 

Hepburn, who was named PSAC East Player of the Week earlier this week, had a big first half for The Haven.  Hepburn connected on five of his first six shots from the field and had 11 points to go along with seven rebounds at the break.

Nate Walters (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) scored seven points and added four rebounds in the opening period.

The Bald Eagles held a potent Seton Hill offense to just 38.5% (10-for-26) shooting from the field in the first half.

The two teams battled back-and-forth for the entire second half.  After LHU led for the entire first half, the two teams combined for nine ties and 12 lead changes in the second.

The Griffins opened the period on a, 19-11 run to take their first lead of the game, 51-49 with 11:30 to play.

The lead didn't last long however, as Lock Haven regained control of what would be a wild final 10 minutes of action.

With the game tied, 73-73 with 1:42 remaining, Kasheef Festus (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carroll) drew a foul and connected on both free throws to put LHU back on top, 75-73.

Seton Hill answered with a three-ball from Noah Davis to go up, 76-75, but the Bald Eagles quickly answered with a three of their own, as Hepburn stepped behind the arc and found the bottom of the net to give LHU a, 78-76 lead with just 20 seconds remaining.

After a SHU timeout, the Bald Eagles locked down defensively, forcing a miss and grabbing the defensive board.  Lock Haven iced the game at the free throw line in the final seconds, securing the, 82-77 road victory.

Hepburn's 35 points came off of 11-of-17 shooting from the field and 11-of-12 shooting from the free throw line.

It marked the second highest point total of Hepburn's career and fifth 30-point game as a Bald Eagle.

Hepburn's 10 rebounds were also a new season-high for the junior guard.

Al Blount (Northampton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) scored 12 points off of a season-best four three-pointers in the game.

Senior forward Kasheef Festus (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds for The Haven.

Malachi Leonard led Seton Hill with 32 points and nine rebounds.

Lock Haven returns to action Saturday (January 11) when the Bald Eagles travel to West Chester in a PSAC East matchup.  Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.

The Bald Eagles entered tonight 7-5 on the year, already marking their most wins since the 2002-03 season…Last Friday's win over UJP marked the Bald Eagles first three-game wins streak since that same season…Wali Hepburn was named the PSAC East Men's Athlete of the Week on Monday, marking the first time a Bald Eagle has won the award this season…It is the second time in his career he won the award…Hepburn has averaged 25 points per game over the last three games and is averaging 20.2 for the season (3rd most in the PSAC)…Tonight marked the first-ever meeting between LHU and Seton Hill in men's basketball.
