LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team is set to open the 2014-15 season on Friday, November 14 at 1 p.m. vs. Bowie State.
 
Friday's game is the first of two at The Shippensburg Wolf's Bus Lines Classic.  The Lady Eagles will face Bowie State Friday at 1 pm, before taking on the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University Saturday at 1 p.m.

Setting the stage
Lock Haven finished the 2013-14 season 7-19 overall and 5-11 in PSAC East action. 
 
Eighth year head-coach Jennifer Smith will look to rely on four veteran leaders this season.  The Lady Eagles return their top-three scores from last year including Marrysa Moyer (14.8), Emily Daugherty (12.8), and Sami Lane (9.5).
 
Picked seventh in PSAC Preseason Poll:
Lock Haven was picked seventh in the PSAC East Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
 
West Chester received four first-place votes to garner the top position in the PSAC East Preseason Poll as the Golden Rams returns all five starters this season.  2014 semi-finalist Bloomsburg received the remaining first-place votes to earn the number two ranking.  Edinboro was the favorite in the Western Division, earning a first-place ranking.

Moyer to power Haven Attack:
Marrysa Moyer will look to lead the Haven offense through her final campaign.  Last season, Moyer averaged 14.8 points per game and 8.6 rebounds.  She played in every game for the Lady Eagles and earned 23 out of 25 starts.  Moyer led the team in blocks with 16 on the season and was .744 from the free throw line.
 
Platoon of veterans:
Alongside Moyer are a heap of veterans who will look to guide this team through another season.  Three crucial returners include: graduate-student Emily Daugherty, senior Sami Lane, and junior J.J. Hilliard. 
 
Daugherty will look to cap a successful career with the Lady Eagles in her final campaign.  She averaged 12.8 points per game and while pulling down 4.0 rebounds.  Daugherty shot .687 from the free throw line.
 
Sami Lane will look to pace the Haven attack as she led LHU with 67 assists a team-high 49 steals.  Lane also averaged 9.5 points per game. 
 
Junior-guard J.J. Hilliard will look to add depth to this Haven offense with 6.2 points per game and 66 assists on the year.  Hilliard averaged 22.9 minutes per game and will be crucial this season.
 
Newcomers:
Coach Smith's bench will look to make an immediate impact with three additions to this 2014-15 roster.
 
Emily Chobany was a two-time West PAC Champion, 1,000 Point Scorer, two-time Captain, and the Altoona Mirror Athlete of the Week, and an Art Burkett Tournament MVP. 
 
Alexis Palfey was a two-time District 6 Basketball Champion, student athlete award recipient, and Runner-Up Champion in both Track & Field and Tennis. 
 
Shayla Lee will look to add depth to this Lady Eagles team.
