Lady Eagles fall to Shippensburg in PSAC Quarterfinal, 3-0

LHU awaits NCAA Selection Show Sunday, November 16

LOCK HAVEN, PA. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (20-11) fell to Shippensburg University (19-16), 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, & 26-24) in a PSAC Quarterfinal match at home on the PSECU court.
 
The Lady Eagles entered the match as the top-seed in the Eastern Division and the Raiders earned a fourth-seed after capping the regular season. 
 
Lock Haven was down in the first set, 10-5 and came back to take an, 11-10 lead when Shippensburg called the first timeout of the match.  Ship battled back to win the first set, 25-23.
 
At the start of the second set, Lock Haven was still down and fought back but their rally fell short as Shippensburg took the second set, 25-22.
 
The Lady Eagles gained momentum late in the final set and continued to battle with Shippensburg, but the Raiders charge proved to be too much, as SU downed LHU, 26-24 in the final set.
 
Cody Anderson (Johnsonburg, Pa./Johnsonburg) etched her name on the score sheet, leading LHU with 15 kills on 48 attempts.  The senior ended her campaign for LHU with 851 career kills in 84 matches.
 
Megan Flick (Howard, Pa./Bald Eagle) recorded nine kills and a .308 hitting-percentage.  Flick added 12 digs.
 
Senior Toryn Quivers (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanan) sparked the Haven attack with six kills and two blocks.
 
Jessica Brown (Fawn Grove, Pa./Kennard-Dale) recorded a double-double, dishing out 35 assists and adding 18 digs on the night.
 
Defensively, Sydney Belcastro (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hopewell) led LHU with 22 digs.  Belcastro reached 1,023 career digs tonight in her sophomore season with the Lady Eagles.
 
Senior Stephanie Doherty (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) tried to halt the Raiders charge with three digs, three assisted blocks, and one solo block.
 
Taylor Gottshall led Shippensburg in the win with 15 kills and a .483 hitting-percentage.
 
The Lady Eagles recorded four aces through three sets.
 
Lock Haven will now wait to see if they are selected to the 2014 NCAA Tournament. The top-eight teams make the tournament each year and the NCAA Selection Show is set for Sunday, Nov. 16 at 10 p.m.
