Lock Haven falls in final home game of 2014 season; #5 Bloomsburg wins 40-3

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team (2-8, 2-7 PSAC East) dropped its final home game of the 2014 season to visiting and fifth-ranked Bloomsburg University (10-0, 9-0 PSAC East), 40-3 today in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action.

Prior to the game today, the Bald Eagles honored their graduating seniors – including George Christas (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown), Bernard Smack (State College, Pa./Shippensburg Univ.), Matt Kirchner (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin), Chris Englar (York, Pa./Central York), Matt Luebbers (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs), Chazz Storm (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), Dan Jordan (Boalsburg, Pa./Penn State), Nick Suriano (Atco, N.J./Shawnee), Matt Sexton (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis), Scott Benkovic (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin), Matt Lewis (Cogan Station, Pa./St. Francis Univ.) and Uchenna Ahaghotu (Silver Spring, Md./Spring Brook).

Bloomsburg led 13-3 at halftime.

Bloomsburg struck quick and with just 6:44 left in the opening quarter, took the 7-0 lead after six-yard run by Dai'Shon Drexler.

Huskie-placekicker Braden Drexler connected from 26 yards out late in the first quarter and again late in the second, from 29 yards to put Bloomsburg up 13-0.

With just six seconds left in the first half, Alex Boumerhi's (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) 33-yard field goal put Lock Haven on the board, cutting the Huskie lead to just 10 at the break. The field goal capped an 11-play, 43-yard (2:13) drive.

Bloomsburg struck twice in the third quarter to stretch the Huskie lead to 26-3 after three, and Bloom added 14 fourth-quarter points to take home the win, which cemented the Huskies' place in next Saturday's PSAC title game at Slippery Rock.

Christas led another strong charge from the Bald Eagle defense. The Preseason All-American finished with a game-high 15 tackles, as he played in front of the home fans for the final time. It marked the fourth time this season that Christas has made 12 or more tackles in a single game.

Rahjeir Miles-Eubanks (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) finished with nine tackles and both Daniel Strawbridge (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg), and Tyrai Anderson (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) made seven tackles apiece. Strawbridge also had an interception and Anderson forced a turnover as the Bald Eagles forced a fumble for the fourth straight game. Lock Haven's defense has forced at least one turnover in all, but one game this season.

Strawbridge now has a team-high four interceptions.

LHU quarterback Caleb Walton (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) moved one step closer to surpassing the 2,000-yard passing mark for a single season. He passed for 154 yards today, giving him 1,891 on the season – just 103 yards away form 2,000. On the season, Walton is averaging 189.1 yards per game through the air.

Walton's 1,891 yards on the season already mark the sixth best single-season mark by a Lock Haven quarterback. In 21 career games, Walton has thrown for 3,047 yards, the eighth most in school history. Walton is aiming to become the first Lock Haven QB since 1995 to surpass 2,000 passing yards in a single season. It's only been done six times in school history.

Lock Haven returns to action next Saturday, November 15 at California (Pa.) University. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. in The Haven's 2014 regular season finale.
