LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team fell to visiting West Virginia, 23-12 tonight in a non-conference dual.
Â
The Bald Eagles (2-5) won four bouts on the night, but the Mountaineers (1-4) picked up valuable bonus points at 125 (major dec.), 141 (pin) and 197 (major dec.) pounds to help earn their first dual-match win of the season.
Â
Ronnie Perry (Christiana, Pa./Solanco),
Dan Neff (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor),
Elias Biddle (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) and
Fred Garcia (Donora, Pa./Ringgold) all won for The Haven tonight.
Â
Trailing 4-0 after a loss at 125, Perry put the Bald Eagles on the board with a solid win at 133. Perry, ranked No. 32, recorded a takedown in each period on the way to a 9-4 decision over WVU's Cory Stainbrook.
Â
Neff, ranked No. 32 at 149 used a workmanlike performance to drop James Dekrone, 6-4. Neff led 5-1 after two periods and hung on for the win.
Â
Biddle grinded out a 4-2 win at 157, giving the Bald Eagles two straight victories. Biddle and Tim Wheeling were scoreless through two periods, despite Biddle riding out Wheeling in the second for two minutes of riding time. With Biddle starting the third period down, the two exchanged reversals with less than minute to go, but a late escape and the riding-time bonus game Biddle the 4-2 win.
Â
In a battle of two nationally-ranked wrestlers, No. 26 Garcia came out on top at 184, downing No. 28 Bubba Scheffel, 7-4. Garcia trailed 2-0 after one period, 2-1 after two periods and 3-1 early in the third, but dominated late to rally past Scheffel. Down, 3-1, Garcia scored two late takedowns and tacked on two near-fall points for the 7-4 win.
Â
Both
Tyler Wood (West Chester, Pa./West Chester-Rustin) and
Brad Emerick (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) were edged in tight contests at 174 and 285, respectively. Wood lost 9-7 and Emerick fell 6-4 in sudden victory. Â
Â
