LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (1-5, 1-2 PSAC) picked up its first win of the season on the road against Mansfield (1-6, 0-4 PSAC), 54-33 in PSAC action.
Senior-guard
Sami Lane (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) led LHU in the win with 14 points, four assists, and three steals. Lane went 7-12 and tallied eight points in the second half.
The Lady Eagles came out firing on all cylinders as LHU took the first possession of the ball at the tipoff.
Marrysa Moyer (Altoona, Pa./Mansfield) put The Haven on the board with two quick layups to lead Mansfield, 4-0.
The lady Eagles exploded with an eight point-run to lead Mansfield, 15-2 with less than 11 minutes to play in the first half.
Rachael McDaniel (Plainfield, N.J./California (Pa.) Univ.) netted a jumper to give LHU a 19-point advantage with 1:18 on the clock.
LHU led Mansfield, 30-17 at the break.
Maria Kelleher sparked the Mountaineer offense with a three pointer in the first minute of action in the second half.
MU netted six quick points to come back, 32-22 in the fourth minute of play.
The Lady Eagles continued to attack and proved to be too strong down the stretch as LHU sealed an, 54-33 Haven victory.
Moyer recorded another double-double this season with 15 rebounds and 10 points. Defensively, Moyer added three blocks in 33 minutes of action.
Freshman
Shayla Lee (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) netted a season-high 10 points and added two steals in 24 minutes of action.
Syvae McDaniel (Plainfield, N.J./California (Pa.) Univ.) etched her name on the score sheet with six points and a pair of boards. McDaniel shot 100% from the free throw line and added a steal in the win.
The Lady Eagles shot 11-12 from the free throw line overall and recorded 30 points in the paint.
Defensively, LHU recorded 14 steals and held Mansfield to a 25.5 field goal percentage. LHU added 21 bench points.
Katie Fitzpatrick led MU with 10 points, seven boards, and three steals. Brielle Kelly added seven rebounds in 28 minutes of action.
Lock Haven will return to the court on Tuesday, December 13 at Pitt-Johnstown (5:30 p.m.).
