Three things you need to know:
Â
1. MILESTONE FILLED NIGHT
Â
Last Thursday (Feb. 6) was a huge night for the LHU men's program as they knocked off No. 3 and previously unbeaten East Stroudsburg, 82-80. Coming into the game, East Stroudsburg was the last remaining undefeated team in Division II and one of just four remaining undefeated teams in all of college basketball. Division I Wichita State (25-0) and Syracuse (23-0), along with DIII Cabrini (18-0) are the other three. The Warriors held the longest active win streak in DII at 20 games.
Â
·        The win was Lock Haven's first over a ranked team since the Bald Eagles beat No. 23 Bloomsburg on December 20, 2006 and is the highest ranked (No. 3) opponent LHU has ever beat.
·        The win was Lock Haven's 14th of the year, the most since The Haven went 14-12 in 1992-93.
·        With the win, Lock Haven also secures its first winning season in 21 years (1992-93).
·        During the win over ESU,
Wali Hepburn became the 16
th player in LHU men's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points.
Â
2. HEPBURN PLAYER OF THE WEEK AGAIN
Â
On Monday (Feb. 10), junior-guard
Wali Hepburn was named the PSAC East Player of the Week for the third time this season. Last Wednesday, Hepburn led the Bald Eagles to the biggest win in school history on what was a career-night for the junior-guard. Hepburn's game-high 27 points helped Lock Haven beat No. 3 and previously unbeaten East Stroudsburg, 82-80 in a PSAC thriller. His layup with less than 10 seconds left in the game sealed the victory for LHU.
Â
·        Hepburn also grabbed seven rebounds. Hepburn was 8-for-18 from the field and a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw stripe.
·        With 11 minutes to play in the second half, Hepburn made a layup, which tied the game at 61-61.The two points pushed Hepburn over 1,000 points for his career.
·        In doing so, Hepburn became the 16th LHU men's basketball player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. As it stands, Hepburn's 27 points last Wednesday have him sitting on 1,011 for his career to date.
Â
3. THREE-HEADED MONSTER
Â
All season, Lock Haven has been led by its "BIG THREE" – Hepburn,
Kasheef Festus and
Bootsie Walker. Hepburn leads the PSAC in scoring with 21.5 points per game. Festus is 12
th in the league with 7.1 rebounds per game and he adds 13.1 points/game. PSAC East Freshman of the Year candidate, Walker, adds 10.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
