Box Score 2 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (2-1) powered its way to two wins today on day two at the Builder Invitational hosted by the Apprentice school.
Lock Haven slugged its way to a, 12-10 win over Briarcliffe College in game one and a, 16-5 win over Bloomsburg in game two.
The Bald Eagles recorded 37 combined hits in the two wins.
The Haven came out in game one with their bats rolling despite a four hour delay in the win over Briarcliffe.
LHU plated all 12 of its runs in the first four innings of the game, including six runs in the very first inning.
The Bald Eagles batted around in the opening frame, pounding out five hits.
Leading, 9-0 in the third, with the bases loaded and two outs,
Austin Botts (Seven Valleys, Pa./Wingate) stepped to the plate and smoked what proved to be a huge two-run single up the middle to put LHU ahead, 11-0.
LHU added its final run in the fourth when
Ryan Henritzy (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) grounded into a fielder's choice that plated the Bald Eagles' 12th run of the game.
That run was the last LHU would score however, as The Haven was held scoreless over the final five innings of play.
Brarcliffe made the game interesting in the middle-innings. BC scored five runs in the fifth and one in the sixth, cutting the LHU to, 12-7.
Briarcliffe would add three more runs in the eighth, threatening the LHU advantage, but The Haven shut the door behind a solid relief appearance from
Aaron Lidgett (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch).
Lidgett pitched the final 1.1 innings to seal the win.
Parker Watson (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) started on the mound for the Bald Eagles. He struck out three in 4.2 innings of work.
Zach Hawk (Fort Meade, Md./Meade) was credited with his first career win as a Bald Eagle.
Jamie Eshelman (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) led LHU going 3-for-5 at the plate. He scored twice and added an RBI and a stolen base.
Botts drove in 3 RBIs in the win.
The Bald Eagles kept the offense rolling in game two, as LHU pounded out 20 hits in the, 16-5 win over Bloomsburg.
Lock Haven recorded nine hits in the first five innings of play and found themselves ahead, 5-3 heading into the sixth.
Henritzy had the big hit in the early innings, as he roped a two-run double to left field in the fourth.
LHU strung together three-straight two-out singles in the sixth to stretch its lead to, 6-3.
Ethan Moore (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) drove home the run with a single to right field that scored
Scott Zuback (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain).
Leading, 6-4 in the seventh, the Bald Eagles tacked on three more runs, as The Haven capitalized on two Bloomsburg errors to push its lead to, 9-4.
Lock Haven blew the game open in the eighth with seven more runs to pull ahead, 16-4.
The game was called after eight innings of play.
Zuback and Henritzy each had four hits for LHU.
Henritzy also scored four runs and drove in two more.
Botts went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. He has nine RBIs in the first three games this season.
Madison Neddo (Earlville, Md./Coppin State Univ.) started the game for LHU. He allowed three runs in 4.0+ innings of work and struck out three.
Cody Godfrey (Windsor, Pa./Red Lion) and
Brandon Renoll (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) combined to throw the final four innings of relief. Godfrey picked up the win.
Lock Haven continues play at the Builder Invitational tomorrow (Saturday, February 22) when the Bald Eagles take on host Apprentice School at 3 p.m.
