Lock Haven falls to Claflin 3-2 (Game 1), but Lady Eagles use long ball to soar past Le Moyne 8-0 (6 innings) in Game 2

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. – The Lock Haven University softball team (2-2) split a pair of games today (Sunday, Feb. 23) on the second day of the 2014 Shaw University Challenge.
 
Lock Haven opened today's action with an early-morning game against Claflin (3-2). The Lady Eagles lost 3-2 on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh. The Lady Eagles broke out the bats in game two and soared past Le Moyne (2-2) 8-0 in six innings.
 
Pitchers Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) and Jessie Probst (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) combined for five strikeouts in the loss to Claflin.
 
LHU found itself trailing 1-0 after 1, but Sarah Schwalm's (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) RBI-single in the top of the third tied the game at 1-1.
 
The Lady Eagles again found themselves trailing in the sixth, but rallied to the tie. This time it was Michelle Holweger (Landsdale, Pa./North Penn), who got it done at the plate. Her double to right drove in pinch-runner Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) to tie the game at 2-2.
 
With the game tied, 2-2, in the bottom of the seventh, Claflin drove in the winning-run with one out to take home the walk-off victory.
 
Lock Haven tagged Le Moyne for eight runs on eight hits and blanked the Dolphins 8-0 (6 inn.).
 
Probst led the way with a stellar outing in the circle and at the plate. She threw a four-hitter and walked just one in six innings of work.
 
She helped her own cause with her first home run of the season. With one out in the bottom of the third, she drilled a shot to deep left field. She finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
 
Leading 1-0, Lock Haven plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Schwalm doubled to left, driving in Probst and the Lady Eagles' got another home run from the very next batter.
 
Jodi Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) drilled a two-run homer to center, making it 4-0. It was the first home run of the freshman's career.
 
The Lady Eagles tallied four more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Lock Haven will next play six games at the Dot Richardson Spring Games in Clermont, Florida from February 28 – March 2. Full schedule is available at www.GoLHU.com.

Yesterday (Saturday, Feb. 22), the Lady Eagles went 1-1 … LHU beat Chowan 3-2 and lost to Columbus State 12-4 (5 innings) … Columbus State has been nationally-ranked all season … This week they were just outside the top-25, but received votes in the NFCA poll … PSAC softball returns to two divisions (East & West) in 2014 because of the July additions of Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown to the conference … For the first time ever Lock Haven will play as part of the Eastern Division … The Lady Eagles were picked fifth in the PSAC East Preseason Coaches' Poll … Chelsea Edwards and Taylor Magee are returning All-PSAC selections.
