Men’s Basketball closes regular season with 17th win

Lock Haven downs Cheyney 79-70 for 17th win of the year; marks most wins for Bald Eagles since 1989-90 season

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (17-9, 10-6 PSAC East) closed the 2013-14 regular season with its 17th win after downing visiting Cheyney University (3-23, 3-13 PSAC East), 79-70.
 
Lock Haven's 17 wins are the most since the Bald Eagles went 26-7 in 1989-90 and they have LHU poised for its first playoff run since 2003.
 
Leading the way tonight was Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia/Neumann-Goretti) and senior Kasheef Festus (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carroll), who each netted 18 points.
 
Hepburn's 18 points helped him take home the PSAC's regular season scoring title at 21.9 points per game. He was 8-for-13 from the field.
 
Prior to tip tonight, LHU head coach Mike Nestor and the Bald Eagles took time to honor their four seniors, including Festus, Nate Walters (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley), Greg Forstater (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) and Sander Vanoutryve (Izegem, Belgium/Stko-Kortijk).
 
Festus had a huge night, pulling down a double-double. He grabbed 12 rebounds to go along with his 18 points. Festus was 8-for-8 from the free throw stripe and 10 of his 12 boards were on the defensive side.
 
Walters came up big for The Haven. He was 7-for-8 form the field and 2-for-2 from downtown on the way to his 16 points.
 
Both Forstater and Vanoutryve made their first career starts and the duo had an immediate impact on the game. In the first five minutes, Vanotryve hit a three and Forstater had three rebounds.
 
Julian Bond (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) hit a trio of three's and finished with 13 points.
 
The Bald Eagles will host Millersville University on Saturday, March 1 at 5 p.m. in PSAC Tournament First Round action. LHU is the No. 4 seed from the East and Millersville is the No. 5 seed.

Nate Walters' 16 points matched a season-high ... It was Kasheef Festus's first double-double in seven games … Wali Hepburn finished the regular season with 21.9 points per game, tops in the PSAC – he edged both Joe Bell (Mansfield) and Deshawn Curtis (Cheyney), who finished 21.8 points per game … Saturday is Lock Haven's first playoff game since 2003 … 2013-14 marks LHU's first winning season in 21 years.
