Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lock Haven University softball team (3-3) opened its six-game swing through Florida with a split today.
Lock Haven opened the day with a 9-7 (8 innings) extra-inning loss to Cedarville, but the Lady Eagles bounced back with a hard-fought 6-5 win over Felician.
The Lady Eagles came back twice to tie Cedarville in what proved to be a thriller. Down 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth, freshman
Jodi Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) hit her second home run of the season. The blast to left field came with two outs and tied the game at 6-6.
CU however tacked on three runs in the top of the eighth and Lock Haven (home team) could only muster up one more run in a short lived rally.
Sarah Schwalm (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) was 2-for-5 with a RBI and
McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) added a pair of hits.
Taylor Magee (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) was 2-for-2 with a RBI and a run scored.
Pitcher
Jessie Probst (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) struck out three in the loss.
In the game-two win over Felician, Lock Haven scored six runs on 10 hits. The Lady Eagles (away team) jumped on Felician early, plating a pair of runs in the top of the first. LHU added four in the top of fifth.
Freshman
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) picked up her first career win and Probst added her first save of the season. Each recorded a pair of Ks.
Garlock had another strong game at the plate, going 3-for-4.
Michelle Holweger (Landsdale, Pa./North Penn) was 2-for-3 at the plate and her three-RBI triple in the fifth helped pave the way to the win.
Defensively,
MaKaylah Holbert (Ulster, Pa./Northeast Bradford) was sensational at third base for LHU in both games.
Lock Haven is right back at it tomorrow (Saturday, March 1) with pair of games. The Lady Eagles take on Dowling at 9 a.m. and Notre Dame College (Ohio) at 11 a.m.
