Box Score 2 CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (7-3) split two games today during the first day of LHU's Spring Break Trip to Clearwater, Florida.
The Bald Eagles beat Ohio Valley, 12-1 in their first game today, but fell this afternoon to Hillsdale, 16-5.
Austin Botts (Seven Valleys, Pa./Wingate Univ.) and
Joe Nestor (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) led The Haven in the game one win over Ohio Valley.
Botts was huge at the plate all game. He hit a three-run homer to center field in the first inning that helped spark LHU's 12-run explosion. The homer was Botts' second of the season.
The junior catcher finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs, three runs scored and Botts was just a triple away from hitting for the cycle.
Unlike Botts, Nestor made his impact felt on the mound. After giving up three straight hits and a run to start the game, Nestor settled down and began to cruise. He allowed just one more hit over the next eight innings and didn't allow another run.
Nestor went eight innings and allowed just the four hits, while striking out three. The win improves Nestor's record to 2-0 on the year.
Ryan Koch (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) had a solid game at the plate, as he went 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
Ryan Henritzy (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and scored three runs for LHU.
Jamie Eshleman (Lewsiberry, Pa./Red Land) and
Karlston VonKiel (Alburtis, Pa./West Mont) each had two hits in the win.
The Bald Eagles held a, 5-3 lead through four innings in LHU's second game of the day against Hillsdale, but The Haven fell, 16-5.
Lock Haven trailed the Chargers, 3-0 heading into the fourth inning, but the Bald Eagles rallied in the fourth with five straight one-out hits to take the lead, 4-3. LHU totaled six hits in the inning, including four extra-base hits to jump ahead, 5-3.
Hillsdale would rally late, however. The Chargers took the lead, 8-5 after six innings and pulled away in the eighth inning to steal the win.
Anthony Kyne (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn State Brandywine) and VonKiel led LHU with two hits each.
Koch went 1-for-3 with a team-best two RBIs.
The Bald Eagles combined for 27 hits in the two games today.
