Lock Haven splits with Kutztown, moves into fourth place in PSAC East standings

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – For the second consecutive day the Lock Haven University softball team rallied for a series split in a crucial PSAC East matchup.
 
Today, Lock Haven (16-23, 11-13 PSAC East) dropped game one to visiting Kutztown University (16-25, 8-14 PSAC East), 1-0 before rallying to take game two, 3-2.
 
With the split, the Lady Eagles move up, and into fourth place in the PSAC East standings with a PSAC East series against, both Mansfield and Shippensburg on the horizon next week.
 
In between games today, the Lady Eagles took time to honor their four graduating seniors – Chelsea Edwards (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), Taylor Magee (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch), Erica Pooler (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) and Kassandra Atherton (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) for all their fine contributions to The Haven softball program.
 
Game 1 Recap:
 
The Golden Bears scored the game's only run in the top of the first inning.
 
Kutztown pitcher Dominique Ficara was a big part of the story in game one, as she limited the Lady Eagles to just two hits.
 
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Edwards broke up the no hitter and Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) added a hit in the game, but Lock Haven couldn't push a run across the board.
 
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) was a tough-luck loser in game one. She surrendered just five hits and one run over seven innings.
 
Game 2 Recap:
 
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Pooler hit a pinch-hit, two-RBI double to tie the game at 2-2 and an inning later, McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) drove in the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run.
 
Garlock finished with a pair of hits.
 
Pitchers Jessie Probst (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Mouillesseaux combined for seven strikeouts in the win. Probst went 4 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits, while striking out five. Mouillesseuax finished the final 2 1/3 innings on the way to the win. She struck out a pair and didn't allow a hit.
 
Lock Haven returns to action on Monday, April 21 vs. IUP (2:30/4:30 p.m.).
