Box Score 2 SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team closed the 2014 season with a split at PSAC East foe Shippensburg University today.
Lock Haven (19-26, 12-16 PSAC East) dropped game one, 5-0 as Shippensburg (29-13, 15-11 PSAC East) got a complete-game effort from pitcher Emily Estep. LHU rallied in dramatic fashion to earn the game-two win, 8-6 in nine innings.
Game 1 Recap: Host-Shippensburg took game one 5-0 after recording nine hits.
The Lady Eagles failed to score after managing four hits.
Chelsea Edwards (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham),
Sarah Schwalm (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin),
Taylor Magee (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) and
Morgan Palmer (Canton, Pa./Canton) all picked up a hit.
Game 2 Recap: LHU led 5-2 heading into the bottom half of the seventh, but Shippensburg rallied to the tie the game, forcing extra innings.
The Lady Eagles wouldn't be denied however and closed the season on a winning note.
The two teams exchanged runs in the eighth, but two runs in the top of the ninth proved the difference for The Haven.
Sarah Schwalm (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) put the Lady Eagles up for good with a two-RBI single.
Freshman
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) picked up the win, her 11
th of the season after working the final three innings.
LHU's eight runs came of 12 hits, including three from
Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon).
Schwalm and Edwards each had two hits in the win.
Lock Haven finished the 2014 season 19-26 overall and the Lady Eagles were 12-16 in PSAC East play. LHU went a sensational 12-5 over the last 17 games of the season as it did everything it could to rally down the stretch for a playoff spot.
With yesterday's (Friday's) losses to Mansfield, Lock Haven was eliminated from postseason contention.
