Softball falls to No. 16 Shippensburg

Lock Haven drops DH to No. 16 Shippensburg 3-1 & 6-5

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team (6-19, 1-9 PSAC East) finally took to its home turf at Lawrence Field, but the Lady Eagles dropped both games of a PSAC East doubleheader to visiting Shippensburg University (19-5, 5-3 PSAC East) this afternoon.
 
No. 16 Shippensburg won 3-1 and 6-5.
 
Pitcher Emily Estep led the Red Raiders effort in game one, as she threw a two-hitter.
 
The Lady Eagles broke up the no-hit bid in the bottom of the seventh inning as they did everything they could to rally.
 
McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) led off the inning with a single to right field and Chelsea Edwards (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) doubled to start Lock Haven's rally. Taylor Magee (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) followed the up with a ground out that drove in Garlock for The Haven's only run.
 
Estep finished with nine game-one strikeouts.
 
Haven pitcher Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) was impressive as well in the circle, going the distance. The rookie scattered six hits over seven innings and struck out four.
 
In game-two, Lock Haven and Shippensburg exchanged runs in the third inning.
 
Down, 5-1 after 4 ½ innings, Garlock turned the game around with one swing as she drilled a grand slam to left field, tying the game at, 5-5.
 
She finished the game, 3-for-4 with a run scored and four RBIs.
 
The game remained tied at 5-5 after six innings and Shippensburg scored the eventual game-winning the top of the seventh.
 
Lock Haven's five runs came on 11 hits.
 
Jodi Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Magee was 2-for-3, and Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
 
Mouillesseaux and Jessie Probst (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) combined for five strikeouts.
 
Lock Haven is right back at it tomorrow (Sunday, April 6) at 1 p.m. when the Lady Eagles host rival Bloomsburg University.
 
*Please note, it was announced last night that Monday's DH at Mansfield University has been postponed to Wednesday.
