Box Score BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (0-1) opened the 2014 season today (Saturday, Aug. 30) with a 2-1 double-overtime loss to Providence.

The game was played at the University of Vermont. With the win, Providence improved to 2-0 on the young season after being host-Vermont Friday night.

The Friars went up 1-0 just over 15 minutes into the game, thanks to a goal from Danielle Bernasconi.

Just over 10 minutes later the Lady Eagles answered with a goal from
Taylor Kennedy (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Township). The goal came off a penalty corner.

Neither team could find the back of the cage in the second half of a tightly contested match. LHU held a slight 15-11 advantage in shots and led 7-4 in penalty corners, including three in overtime, but Lock Haven just couldn't find that second goal.

th minute of play, Steph Guglielmo gave Providence the win after she deflected home a shot from the top of the circle.

Elaina White (Etters, Pa./Red Land), a returning All-Region player was solid in her 2014 debut and finished with four saves.

Lock Haven returns to action tomorrow (Sunday, Aug. 31) vs. host-Vermont at 1 p.m.
