Lady Eagles shutout Vermont 3-0 for 1st win of 2014

Lock Haven gets goals from three different players, defense shuts down Vermont

Box Score BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (1-1) got goals from three different players and the Lady Eagles shutout host-Vermont (0-2) 3-0 for their first win of the 2014 season.
 
Lock Haven got goals from Brittney Hickernell (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser), Nakira Downes (Bridgetown, Barbados/The Combermere School) and Megan Wenrich (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin), while Elaina White (Etters, Pa./Red Land) made two saves on the way to the win.
 
Hickernell opened the scoring late in the first half after she knocked home a rebound to make it 1-0.
 
Downes made it 2-0 in the 49th minute after she slipped through the defense on a breakaway.
 
Wenrich capped the scoring with under 10 minutes to play after she knocked home a rebound in front of the cage.
 
LHU outshot Vermont 9-7 and held a 5-2 advantage in penalty corners.
 
The Lady Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 6 in their 2014 home-opener. LHU hosts Towson at 1 p.m. at Charlotte Smith Field.
