Field Hockey blanks Towson, 7-0

Lock Haven dominates visiting Towson on way to second shutout in three games

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team picked up its second shutout in three games, as it dominated visiting Towson in every facet of the game on the way to a 7-0 victory.
 
Lock Haven (2-1) got a pair of goals from Lydia George (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) and the Lady Eagle defense was sensational, limiting Towson (0-2) to just nine shots.
 
Nakira Downes (Bridgetown, Barbados/The Combermere School) added a goal and two assists to help spark The Haven's explosive attack that peppered a pair of Tiger goalies with 20 shots.
 
Brittney Hickernell (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser), Megan Wenrich (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Stephanie Whiteman (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anstey East) added goals for Lock Haven, who dominated from the start.
 
Hickernell put LHU up for good just 9:25 in and George's two goals less than one minute part late in the first half led the charge. Lock Haven added four second-half tallies.
 
Leading the defense for Lock Haven was Jenna Felice (Endicott, N.Y./Maine Endwell) and goalie Elaina White (Etters, Pa./Red Land). White finished with eight saves in her second shutout of the year.
 
Last year, LHU led all NCAA Division I teams in shutouts per game and they are well on the way to defending the title.
 
LHU is right back at it tomorrow (Sunday, September 7) at noon on the road at Georgetown.
