PITTSBURGH – The Lock Haven University wrestling team (2-7) dropped a pair of matches today at the Pitt Duals, losing to No. 21 North Carolina State, 32-3 and North Carolina, 24-9 in non-conference action.
 
Leading the way for the Bald Eagles was 184-pounder Fred Garcia (Donora, Pa./Ringgold), who picked up wins both matches.
 
Garcia, ranked No. 25 at 184, picked up the Bald Eagles only win vs. NC State. He downed Nicky Hall, 4-1.
 
Garcia picked up his second win of the day vs. UNC, downing Scott Marmoll, 8-4.
 
Garcia is now 21-2 on the year. The two wins today give him 90 for his career, as he closes in on the prestigious 100-win mark.  Garcia will be vying to become just the 16^th Bald Eagle in school history to reach the 100-win mark and the first since Seth Martin (2002-'07).
 
Another bright spot for Lock Haven came in the UNC-match, as 125-pounder Jake Field (South Elgin, Ill./Marmion Academy) got the Bald Eagles on the board early with a first-period pin. It was his fourth pin of the season and put LHU up 6-0.
 
Phil Sprenkle (Seven Valleys, Pa./Dallastown) returned to the lineup at 197 after a lengthy layoff and dropped a pair of thrilling nail-biters, as he did all he could to spark Lock Haven in his return.
 
The Bald Eagles will return to action next weekend in Philadelphia with matches at Drexel (Friday, January 16, 7 p.m.) and No. 28 Penn (Saturday, January 17, 12 p.m.).
