Bald Eagles open EWL slate this weekend

Lock Haven Wrestling hosts George Mason Friday in EWL opener; Bald Eagles travel to Cleveland State on Sunday

The LHU wrestling team is set to open Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) action this weekend with a pair of duals.
 
The Bald Eagles will host George Mason on Friday, January 23 at 7 p.m., before traveling to Cleveland State on Sunday (Jan. 25) for a 2 p.m. match.
 
Last weekend, Lock Haven split dual matches in Philadelphia and LHU enters the weekend at 3-8 overall (0-0 EWL).
 
George Mason is riding a two-match win streak and coming off a 28-9 win over Clarion. The Patriots are 7-5 overall (2-0 EWL).
 
LHU head coach Scott Moore and the Bald Eagles are asking all alums to try and make it back for Friday's match.
 
Cleveland State (3-2 overall, 0-2 EWL) is coming off a January 15th win over Eastern Michigan.

Fred Garcia closing in on history:
Senior and two-time NCAA Division I tournament qualifier Fred Garcia is closing in on history, as he looks to join a noteworthy group of Haven wrestlers. Garcia picked up a pair of wins two weeks ago at the Pitt Duals, giving him 21 wins on the season and moving his career win total to 90, just 10 away from the prestigious 100-win club.
 
Lock Haven has had 15 wrestlers win 100 or more matches in school history, with the last coming in 2007 (Seth Martin, 2002-'07; 133 wins).
 
Last time out (Sunday, Jan. 18):
On Sunday, a number of Bald Eagles competed unattached at the 2015 Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Tournament hosted by Millersville University. Leading the way for the Bald Eagles was 133-pounder Ronnie Perry, who was third overall. He was 4-1 on the day with his only loss coming in the semifinals.
 
Haven splits duals in Philly:
On Friday (Jan. 16), Lock Haven outlasted Drexel on the road for an 18-15 win. In all six Bald Eagles won, including Jake Field, Bobby Rehm, Dan Neff, Elias Biddle, Aaron McKinney and Phil Sprenkle.
 
On Saturday (Jan. 17), LHU won three bouts at Penn and fell to the Quakers 22-9. Jake Field, Elias Biddle and Dillon Gavlock all won for Lock Haven.
 
Up next:
Following Sunday's (Jan. 25) match at Cleveland State, Lock Haven travels to No. 6 Cornell next Saturday, January 31 for a 6:30 p.m. match. On Sunday, February 1, LHU hosts Clarion at 2 p.m.
